Problem-Based Learning Rooms

Grandplus College has created dedicated Problem-Based Learning (PBL) rooms, establishing spaces specifically designed to support active, collaborative, case based learning approaches.

Problem-Based Learning is an educational approach where students learn by solving real world problems. Rather than passive lecture-based instruction, students work in small groups to analyze clinical cases, identify learning needs, conduct research, and develop solutions. This approach has been shown to improve critical thinking, collaboration skills, and retention of medical knowledge.

The dedicated PBL rooms are equipped with round or oval tables encouraging face-to-face interaction and discussion. Walls feature writable surfaces where groups can capture ideas, create concept maps, and organize information visually. Each room has digital displays and internet connectivity to support research and multimedia resources.

The rooms are designed with flexibility—furniture can be easily reconfigured to support different types of collaborative activities. Some configurations support structured group discussions, while others accommodate presentations or simulations.

The PBL approach is integrated across multiple programs at Grandplus College, particularly in nursing, community health, and pharmacy programs. Faculty receive training in facilitating PBL sessions, learning to guide student discussions without providing direct answers, thereby developing student independence and problem-solving skills.

Clinical cases used in PBL are selected to reflect real health challenges encountered in Nigerian health systems. This ensures students develop competence in addressing actual health problems they will encounter in their professional practice.

The PBL approach also develops essential professional skills including teamwork, communication, time management, and self directed learning. These skills are increasingly recognized as critical for success in modern healthcare practice.

These dedicated spaces and the commitment to problem-based learning demonstrate Grandplus College's adoption of evidence based educational approaches proven to develop competent, thinking healthcare professionals.
